Brain Based treatments
-
Eye movement therapy
By strategically implementing specific eye movements coordinated with specific directions, speed, and duration your brain is rewiring itself to create new processing pathways. At SCC neuro, our chiropractic neurologists rely heavily on eye movement therapy for the profound impact on one’s functional neurological health.
-
Sensory integration
We have our 5 main senses of sight, taste, touch, hearing, and smell. While this list may seem all inclusive it makes it easy to overlook senses like that of proprioception [sense of self] and graviception [sense of position in relationship to gravity]. While these seems like large scale systems, each sense has specific anatomical locations and neuruophysiological pathways associated.
-
Vestibular & Cerebellar rehab
Our vestibular system and cerebellum are constantly at work. These 2 systems are largely responsible for our relationship to gravity, our balance, accuracy of our movements, and coordination of our movements.
-
Motor integration
Our motor systems contracts under volitional control, reflexive control, and oscillatory control seen with movements like waking and breathing.
Identifying movement patterns within neural networks and understanding if those patterns are normal or abnormal can be the difference between a successful neurological rehab plan and a non-successful neurological rehab plan.
-
Nerve stimulation
Nerves that fire together, wire together. This means activating specific nerves can impact nerves near or along other nervous system tracts that are interconnected. The specificity of nerve activation is the overall goal of a chiropractic neurologist with your neurological rehabilitation plan.
-
Light therapy
We use infrared light therapy for its proven ability to increase cellular energy through ATP production by directly influencing the mitochondria of our cells. With each cell creating more energy and becoming more efficient, our body has additional energy to heal.
-
SCENAR therapy
SCENAR therapy functions on two physiological principles: that the body has its own healing capabilities and that it is continually employing processes of self-regulation to maintain health.
It delivers non-invasive, computer-modulated therapeutic electro-stimulation via a patient’s skin and involves high amplitude, short-duration waveforms with little discomfort to patients.
-
Brainstem integration
The brainstem houses the nuclei of a majority of our cranial nerves. Our brainstem performs vital functions like controlling heart rate, blood flow, breathing rate, digestion, eye movements, facial movements, facial sensation, vestibular system, tongue and palate control.
-
Emotional regulation
Specific regions of our brain, mainly our mid brain and mesolimbic structures, take responsibility for emotional regulation or dysregulation. This does not mean that these areas are specifically at fault for everybody’s emotional problems, but that these areas may be the victim of dysregulation occurring elsewhere.
-
Supplementation
When it comes to supplements there are plenty to choose from. At SCC Neuro, we evaluate supplements through the lens of how many ingredients they contain, the form of the ingredient, the source of the ingredient, and the overall dosage. Recommendations are based on clinic presentation, blood work, and overall symptoms.
-
Nutrition and Lifestyle
Our brain loves frequency, repetition, and intensity. We use these principles to help patients adapt lifestyle changes that become long lasting change. Our program includes thorough intake questionnaires, pre and post blood work, customized nutrition planning, and virtual appointments.
-
Orthostatic retraining
Have you had a normal EKG and echocardiogram yet still experience symptoms? Our nervous system is the key player in making sure blood is getting where it needs to go when we stand up. For some, standing up is the worst part of any day. The unpredictability of what will happen to your heart rate, to your vision, if you will get light headed, or if you will faint. If our brain isn’t getting enough blood, our body applies all sorts of compensations that mask themselves as symptoms of end-organ conditions, like blaming a heart for a high heart rate.
-
Memory and cognition
Like emotions, memories are proteins. So, too, are cognitive thoughts. The brain structures related to these functions are involved with adjoining systems, like smell and volitional eye movements. Sharing neurological pathways lends the ability of rehabbing one system to indirectly rehab another.
-
Focus builder
Focus builder is an app to exercise the brain to create long-term change. The app contains a variety of exercises to voluntarily move your eyes in various, patterns, speed, and directions, which have been proven to activate specific parts of the brain depending on which eye movement is performed.

Light and sound integration
Light and sound integration in terms of neurological rehabilitation can have far reaching effects. We constantly react to changes in sound and light in our environment and if we are not filtering out enough of light and sound energy, we will become increasingly sensitive. Our goal at South Carolina Chiropractic Neurology is to identify what may be causing the increased sensitivity and provide specific neurological rehabilitation plans to promote neuroplastic changes.
