Orthostatic retraining

Helping you stand up again

A simple thing many of us take for granted. For some, standing up is the worst part of any day. The unpredictability of what will happen to your heart rate, to your vision, if you will get light headed, or if you will faint.

Standing up and our nervous system

Have you had a normal EKG and echocardiogram yet still experience symptoms? Our nervous system is the key player in making sure blood is getting where it needs to go when we stand up. If our brain isn’t getting enough blood, our body applies all sorts of compensations that mask themselves as symptoms of end-organ conditions, like blaming a heart for a high heart rate.

Orthostatic retraining exercises:

  1. Peripheral nerve stimulation with positional changes

  2. Hypoglossal nerve stimulation

  3. Eye movement therapy

  4. Vestibular therapy
