Fix your brain to fix your metabolic health
The importance of metabolic health
In 2025 we are faced with the reality of being diagnosed with metabolic syndrome. Some of you reading may have heard of this, while others have not. The first question is always what is metabolic syndrome? When you Google metabolic syndrome you may get something called Syndrome X or other factors that make up metabolic syndrome. At its core metabolic syndrome is a predisposition to lifestyle diseases caused by lifestyle factors.
The criteria that make up metabolic syndrome is having a combination of health markers and symptoms. Being diagnosed with metabolic syndrome doesn’t necessarily mean that something is wrong, but something definitely is not right. This includes a waist line over 35” for females and 40” for males, high triglycerides, high fasting glucose, low LDL cholesterol, high blood pressure, and others. The dangerous combination of symptoms put those individuals at risk for diabetes, strokes, and heart attacks.
Metabolic health and your brain
Our brain accounts for 20% of an individual’s energy expenditure at rest. This means that 1/5 of all of the fuel and energy in our body is being used by our brain. Now, lets think about how our brain is reacting to our body’s metabolic health. The brain is in charge of coordinating every tissue, organ, gland, cell, and molecule in our body. If our body is being riddled with toxic food, household chemicals, stored emotional trauma, and physical trauma there is absolutely no way that the health of our brain is not being directly affected.
In our body exists what is called the gut-brain axis. This is a 2 way communication channel between our gut and our brain. This communication channel plays an important role in the health of our brain and our nervous system. Many of our hormones and our immune system are directly related to the health of our gut (or as we now know, the health of our brain also).
Brain based care for metabolism
We say that healing the gut can heal the brain. Is the brain really healed or are the symptoms no longer disrupting our life? The truth is, without evaluating the brain and nervous system there is no way to tell. Through a brain based evaluation we can understand how the brain and nervous system is functioning. When we improve the health and function of the brain this improves the health and function of our nervous system. It is our nervous system that controls the health and function of our gut. Through strategic brain based healthcare we can impact the overall health of our metabolism to help reduce and eliminate our symptoms.
