Sensory integration
Sensory mismatch and what to do
Sensory integration can mean a number of things. We have our 5 main senses of sight, taste, touch, hearing, and smell. While this list may seem all inclusive it makes it easy to overlook senses like that of proprioception [sense of self] and graviception [sense of position in relationship to gravity]. While these seems like large scale systems, each sense has specific anatomical locations and neuruophysiological pathways associated.
What does sensory integration look like?
Sensory integration can be a number of things. The ultimate goal is recalibration of sensory input and motor output for symptom relief. Example of neurological rehabilitative exercises may include:
Identifying somatotopic input without visual cues
Multiplanar complex movements
Color therapy with specific eye glasses
Positional related therapies
Smell identification
